Dr. Jill Grimes

MD, FAAFP

Dr. Jill Grimes, MD, is passionate about prevention, and as a family physician and spokesperson for the American Academy of Family Physicians, her practical advice covers all ages, genders and body parts.

Dr. Grimes' award-winning first book, Seductive Delusions: how everyday people catch STDs (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008) is now entering its seventh year within the Texas high school curriculum, engaging teens, teachers and parents in much needed discussions. The second edition of Seductive Delusions was released in 2016, and was recently named a 2017 American Book Fest finalist.

Dr. Grimes is the editor-in-chief of the two-volume Sexually Transmitted Disease: an Encyclopedia of Diseases, Prevention, Treatment and Issues (Greenwood, 2014).

Dr. Grimes is a longstanding member of the 5-Minute Clinical Consult team, annually authoring a variety of topics from Alzheimer's Disease to Infectious Diseases since 2010, and serving as an Associate Editor for the 2010-2014 editions.

Dr. Grimes' evidence-based medical advice can be found in print, online, or via radio and television media; from popular magazines such as Glamour, Health, Good Housekeeping, and Parenting, to Sirius XM Doctor Radio call-in shows. Major online publications include Livestrong.com (STD Expert) and Sharecare.com (Family Medicine Expert).

Academic speaking broadcasts for physician colleagues include media such as ReachMD and Healthcasts. Dr. Grimes is a regular faculty member speaker for the AAFP Scientific Assembly (now known as AAFP FMX) and a Harvard Medical School guest faculty member for Writing, Publishing and Social Media for Healthcare Professionals.

Dr. Grimes was a Presidential Endowed Scholar at Texas A&M University. She earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in 1991, and then moved to Austin, Texas, to complete her residency training in Family Medicine. After nearly twenty years of private practice, Dr. Grimes now enjoys seeing college students as patients within the University of Texas Health Services Urgent Care Department. Dr. Grimes has also been a part-time clinical instructor for UMASS Medical School since 2000.
